Taiwan should, in addition to purchasing AIP subs, naval mine the **** out of the strait.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

That would be hazardous to civilian ships and probably be a bad idea.

Getting conquered would also be hazardous.

There is no reason to believe Taiwan is in any imminent danger of being invaded.

Can't sink an aircraft carrier that is an island.

              But you can destroy airbases.

They can be repaired, VTOL aircraft and helicopters don't need a runway.

They need bases to operate from, with infrastructure for repairs, fueling, and crewing.

If China can knock out Taiwan's airbases and destroy the planes on the ground, there's very little stopping an invasion.

We don't have such a strong ability to launch an opposed marine landing as a lot of people would like to think.

I'm not disagreeing with the statement that China has no good incentive to invade Taiwan right now. Absolutely, it would be a stupid move, for more than just the reason that everything would be a smoldering crater.

It wouldn't matter, when we control the seas and sky. China would not be able to resupply the island once the US enters.

As their military capabilities get less asymmetrical your kind of scenarios become more feasible.

I agree with DaShi here, while they would initially have the advantage, there's no conventional way they could stop the US from retaking Taiwan.

I've always imagined it as a miniseries on HBO or something of that nature. Too many viewpoints and it's way too long for a movie.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. They'd have to hack it way too much for a single movie.

Taiwan should, in addition have HC standing on the shore to engage in long pointless debate until they are so fed up they go home.
