It's less relevant to the US navy and air force. Don't forget bases in the Philippines and Japan. China would have to destroy too much to gain Taiwan and then deal with insurgents while defending from a US counterattack.Originally posted by regexcellent View PostNo. If the Chinese control the island, they're in a much stronger position because the distance we would have to launch an attack from is far greater.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. We don't have such a strong ability to launch an opposed marine landing as a lot of people would like to think.Originally posted by DaShi View PostIt's less relevant to the US navy and air force. I'm not disagreeing with the statement that China has no good incentive to invade Taiwan right now. Absolutely, it would be a stupid move, for more than just the reason that everything would be a smoldering crater.

It wouldn't matter, when we control the seas and sky. China would not be able to resupply the island once the US enters.Originally posted by regexcellent View PostWe don't have such a strong ability to launch an opposed marine landing as a lot of people would like to think.
As their military capabilities get less asymmetrical your kind of scenarios become more feasible.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. They'd have to hack it way too much for a single movie.I've always imagined it as a miniseries on HBO or something of that nature. Too many viewpoints and it's way too long for a movie. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
