The usual pushups, then flutter kicks, then pushups, then flutter kicks, then 10-count pushups/burpees, then bear crawling back and forth for a while, while being lectured about how officers must be professional in everything they do, with occasional yes sergeants from me.

Also I spent like 10 minutes going from front leaning rest to attention and back again.

e: this was immediately after morning PT too. I was not a happy camper.

None of that is shown in military recruitment commercials.

Sloww was in the Air Force, so that's probably accurate based on his experiences. That golf course isn't going to maintain itself.

That's mild. ROTC mild. The flip side of not being in leg units is that you substitute higher intensity training all the time for the chicken**** factor. Once you get the Ranger tab, you're then supposed to set an example, so a little ego combines with Pavlov's dawg. My Corcoran II's had such a ****ing shine to them you could practically use them as a mirror for shaving. Your goal is to do everything above picture perfect so you instilled a feeling of inadequacy in lesser beings (POGs and leg grunts) and pulled along the younger airborne grunts by example.
After I got out I didn't care, though, so they got pretty scuffed up.

                    Armor
                    Field Artillery

                    Aviation
                    Special Forces
As Sloww said, combat arms make up ~10% of total army personnel. We learned that very early in basic training. The vast majority of the force is support personnel making sure the front line guys are getting everything they need, making sure wounded people are moved to the rear and getting medical assistance, and doing things like repairing damaged equipment. Plus there are a hell of a lot of MOSs in combat force multiplier positions who aren't themselves frontline combat forces despite being near the front lines like my old MOS in Psyop.

Yeah, and everybody gets a beret too, so they can feel good about themselves. That's why the Army has gone to hell in a bucket.

Berets suck, I would gladly shred mine.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
