    So go somewhere else.

What kind of executioner gives the victim a 60 year head start?

I've wondered the same thing, it's a question for wiser men than I.

One thought: moving the capital might cause NK to act, both because it may be perceived as a sign of weakness, and because they would have no better opportunity to destroy the SK government in one go.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I wonder if technology will ever allow the major powers to instantly wipe troublemakers from the globe before they can respond.

Originally yes - at Potsdam iirc, but in the war itself the fighting congealed on that line for nearly two years because of the strong defensive positions it provided for both sides, mountain ranges on along both flanks of the Han estuary and other rivers in the watershed, right across the peninsula.

The allies decided the casualties would be too horrific to push forward against a million strong Chinese army, which was probably fair enough. The opportunity was lost in the first year of the war when the front stabilised, after the Chinese invasion, a little too far south.

Yep. The best opportunity was before the Chinese jumped in - it was pretty naive to think we could roll up NK all the way to the Yalu and China do nothing about it. But there's MacArthur for you.

MacArthur was a ****ing dip****. I'm glad he ended up amounting to a big fat nothing when Ike got to be prez.

I always thought that MacArthur had advocated bombing China to prevent an invasion. Did my history teacher screw up, AGAIN?!?

IIRC, he wanted to use nuclear weapons.

He wanted to bomb China AFTER they invaded.

A man at my gun club, one of the directors, was in the marines and served at the Chosin Reservoir. IIRC he was also at the Incheon landings. He's got some really cool stories but some of the stuff about Chosin he refuses to talk about. He just says, "it was bad."
