  • Now we know why American Beer tastes like Water

The world's largest brewer has been accused of watering down beers in the US, including Budweiser and Michelob, in class-action lawsuits that seek millions of dollars in damages.

World's largest brewer, maker of Budweiser and Michelob, faces lawsuits over claim labels overstate alcohol volume

“Our information comes from former employees at Anheuser-Busch, who have informed us that as a matter of corporate practice, all of their products [mentioned in the lawsuit] are watered down,”

    Allegedly of course..
I am not sure what to say except this may be the Best Chance to use the  Smiley in a while so go for it.

Don't they have to have a particular level of alcohol, which is listed on the beer? I'd think that would be trivially verifiable. Just adding water to produced beer isn't necessarily a problem; if the beer happens to make a 8% alcohol level, you have to water it down to get to the 5% or whatever they list.

        I love this quote:
"Right now, I'm skeptical," Shepard told the Post-Dispatch. "Brewers and other large companies are often the targets of class-action lawsuits, and A-B wouldn't have had its vice president of brewing Peter Kraemer come out with their statement if they weren't confident in their standing."

No company has ever said something that turned out to be untrue, especially not a _vice president_ of a company

How is it illegal to sell a watered down product? Doesn't sound like fraud unless they lied about the alcohol content or insisted it wasn't watered down.

Adding water to Bud would make it taste marginally more like beer.

The accusation is that they listed a particular content and didn't reach that. I find that really hard to believe - it's so easy to verify the alcohol level, and I'd think the FDA would be expected to periodically verify it in order to check that it's not too high.

Yep, it's very easy to determine the specific gravity of a beer and that's how you determine ABV.

Considering most people who drink it think its quality _decreased_ post-InBev acquisition, I don't think you are allowed to complain about that part.

I had a nice l'ambree double malt and flammenkueche at Les Brasseurs yesterday. It made me again wonder why would anyone drink lager that is effectively sugar water? (not just Bud, but many lagers are flavourless).
