Lowell Observatory Near-Earth Object Search (LONEOS): Begun in 1993, the LONEOS system utilizes a 0.6-meter f/1.8 Schmidt telescope in Flagstaff Arizona to discover near-Earth comets and asteroids. The telescope was acquired from Ohio Weslayan University in 1990. Using a 4K x 4K CCD detector to cover a field of view of 2.9 x 2.9 degrees, the telescope is designed to make four scans per region over the entire visible sky each month down to a limiting magnitude of about 19. In 1999-2000, the efficiency of the LONEOS program in discovering NEOs increased significantly due to upgrades to the CCD camera and data reduction software.

Didn't see this one coming did they? Wonder what the minimum size of an object they can detect is.

You're using a thread about a meteor strike that has injured hundreds of people to denigrate them.

Shut up. Even people from Iowa wouldn't think UFOs were dropping rocks on them.

Oy vei, what a thread. I will say this. I am a strong Christian believer. I believe that God works in the world and miracles do occur.

However, I find nothing wrong with dannubis's statements.

I feel sad for the Russians injured. And I do think Sloww was incorrect to denigrate the believe that maybe UFOs did this - because after all, how often does something like this even occur?

Nothing I said was meant to justify Sloww's remark in any way.

To be honest, neither can I. There is faith and then there is faith in direct contradiction with scientific evidence. One can believe that God can do things that do no conform to physics, but the problem with Young Earth Creationism is that all the evidence indicates the Earth is billions of years old - there is not conforming to physics and then there is direct contradiction to observed facts and the questions that arise (Is God trying to fool us with fossils).

Think what you want. To think you're under attack by rock throwing UFOs is ignorance at best, stupidity at worst.

I think the point was: so is being a Young Earth Creationist.

And yes, being a YEC is ignorance at best, stupidity at worst.

Of course we are speaking of a tragedy that happened here. Who cares what the people subject to it believe?
