At that range a blank pistol would be as fatal as a real one. There was a TV show in the US decades ago while being filmed one of the main actors put a blank gun to his head and fired it. Though the skull was not penetrated the shockwave caused a lethal amount of intracranial damage.

Strangelove is right, blanks can kill you. A blank cartridge is just a normal cartridge but crimped off without the bullet. So you have the same amount of hot gas coming out the end, and at that range it's just as lethal. In many countries blanks are unregulated.

The attacker never intended to actually kill Dogan. He is charged with houliganism AFIK.
Most people here think that this is some internal party theater being played. This guy Dogan is supposedly resigning and there is probably some internal party struggle for power.

Yep. But those were party's delegates, not security.

It seems that they would get away with it though on the technicality that he was not hadcuffed (i.e. not restrained) when the unnecessary beating happened.

Anyway the whole thing is a farce.
