  • Why no thread on the French military intervention in Mali?

What gives people? There was a time when such news would have had multiple threads here but now no one can be bothered?

It's only fun when you can criticize American military adventures, I suppose.

That is fun, especially when regina gets all wargasmy.

Because none of us are French or Malinese? (Malish? Maliyan?)

Western intervention and locals support it.

France showing how it's done (ie pick the right engagement).

Let's hope that militarily they deliver as well, even though the troop numbers are minimal at this stage.

life in Timbuktu seems to be on the up already

Following France's intervention in Mali last week, a Timbuktu resident, who asked to remain anonymous, tells the BBC about reaction in the city to the Islamist fighters' apparent withdrawal.

Yeah, the Al Qaeda aligned terrorist group (which really seems to be nothing more than a hostage ransom group) attacked an oil & natural gas facility in Algeria and were demanding (among other things) an end to the French assistance to Mali in exchange for releasing the hostages. Supposedly ~35 Algerian nationals over powered their guards then helped free ~15 western hostages and then they all escaped to the Algerian Army's positions surrounding the compound. Very good news indeed.

No Lance threads either - I guess Drake and the couple of other Lance bootlickers are gone? Not even a "King Obama dun try an tak are gunz" thread. This place is getting disappointing.

Its not as if we don't know what the various poly posters are going to post. I approve of this time saving measure.
