Even more common is thinking that the flu shot protects against the should-never-ever-EVER-be-called-but-is-anyway "stomach flu". The "stomach flu" has precisely ****-all to do with influenza, and somehow even less to do with the flu shot, but very few laypeople know that.

NOT THE FLU. Do not call it that. This is what causes the problem.

It is viral gastroenteritis. It has as much to do with influenza as influenza does with HIV.

Thx for confirming my suspicion that a flu can lead to HIV - does that mean that a flu shot can protect against HIV ?
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

My state is one of only three not having a major outbreak.

I think maybe last year, or the year before? Still grown in eggs, but now the residual amount of egg protein is considered negligible, even for people with egg allergy. Some are recommending you get your dose in an allergist's office just in case, but that seems to be precautionary.

New York's outbreak seems to be stuck in NYC/Hudson River Valley.

Recent studies however have shown that the Flu vaccine is only 59% effective.

Reduces number of people needing Dr visits with Flu Like symptoms by 59%.

As Flu kills ~ 2500 people a year in the UK (lowest estimate, can get a lot higher depending on across how many years you do the average) so if we can prevent 59% of cases, especially in vulnerable groups, it would seem extremely worthwhile?

Oh I'm not saying you shouldn't have it, but previous estimates of its efficacy were much higher. People who got the disease anyway were convinced that we were lying about its efficacy. When claims about the efficacy of a treatment are fluffed up people lose trust in the medical profession.
