Russia: The world's worst drivers.

Well, I have to say watching this video on NPR's website sure makes driving in Russia look like an adventure but not in a good way.

It looks like they could use some better driver's training, better enforcement of traffic laws, and probably a whole lot of road safety improvements to boot. Some of the stuff on that video is just shocking.

Well, it appears several African (and some lesser developed Asian) countries are worse but Russia is the worst in the industrialized world when it comes to road deaths. Ouch, they need to do something to get the death rate on Russia's roads down.

Some of those are classic, like driving in the opposite direction and truck tyres falling off. Russians have a lot of cameras in the cars.

But there might be something more to it. There are things like fighter jets flying 50 meters over the road for example that you probably won't see no matter how many West Europeans put cameras in their cars.

The jets were a minor scandal here in Russia. The air base command first tried to claim that the pilots were practicing low altitude flight, but later confirmed they were actually horsing around.
