At about 4 times what I was originally paid. As soon as they asked about my availability to consult, I knew I had them by the balls which is how I was able to negotiate such a high consulting fee. They should have just given me the money I asked for in the first place.
    Good story

Actually, my last employer also requested for a quote, which I never gave them due to being too busy. They would have been too big of a customer and requested that I would be personally in charge of the service they wanted. A very lucrative offer, but I remained loyal to the company I work for now... since they are direct competition. So due to making it clear who I work for and avoiding conflict of interest, I turned it down.

The lesson being that if I play my cards right, it just might be possible to turn this into an advantage. But there are many factors I am not aware of. Truth to be told, I really have enjoyed myself, the benefits are great(!!!) that are worth a lot. I would still choose them over consulting for more money.

Benefits? Well one of them includes mortgage without interest. I did not spell that incorrectly. And that was just one of the benefits...

Who am I kidding... just trying to stay positive. Really sucks.

It's weird how being really motivated turned into being the exact opposite. I'm also considering - as some of you remember my condition - spending more time with my kids. I could takes this as a sign or an opportunity.

sorry Pekka, but you'll bounce back for sure
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

take a little time off, spend some quality time with your wife and kids, everything will seem better after that. then a recharged supercitizen will be ready to take on the world again.

Unfortunately, my company has instituted a temporary hiring freeze....

I expect it will get lifted in a month or 2.

Oh I remember that one for sure, thanks for the tip by the way

It looks like there's a very slim chance I might be able to survive this cut, we'll see in the coming next few weeks.

Don't worry friends, I'm not down just yet.

Letting you guys know I was not laid off. The situation looked really bad but I was saved by the bell at the last moment.

For people who got laid off it sucks. For me? I've lost fear. I've realized that I can do what I want. What ever it is that I want to see there is me for the taking/doing. I'll just try to think it through and then do it. No second guessing. Also, telling the truth when it hurts too, as in "I think we should get rid off vendor X, and instead we should use vendor Y." Then, go and grab a beer with them and see what they're about. Also, no more trying to please everyone.

                        Thanks!

It's a great lesson. First: I'm a player with heart. I don't give an effort, trade something for the salary. I give myself. It comes with good, it comes with bad, but I don't do things any other way.

It's hard to realize that employers, comprised of people, lose perspective, outsourcing loyalty and responsibility of the human in times like these. In short, it does not matter how much time and effort and all the sacrifices you make. The mean nothing. In fact, if you've been giving your all, chances are you won't be respected. It is sociopathic, cruel and cannibalistic organizational behavior. Thinking that someone cares is a big big mistake.

So now what? Is it just a job now?
