  • What's the difference between the two? They seem to be pretty close to the same, but the sr22 is double action and costs about 50 bucks more.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

    • The Mark 3 is going to be modestly more accurate, it's a "target" pistol.

Also, not sure what you mean by "double action". That usually refers to revolvers, not semi-automatic pistols.

      • On a double-action automatic the trigger pulls the hammer back. On such guns the hammer can't be manually pulled back. Glocks are double-action. On DA/SA guns like Beretta 92s (M9), the trigger is double action if the hammer is down and single action if the hammer is up. The hammer comes back up with the action of the gun.

        • Ah, gotcha.

In the context of a .22LR pistol though it doesn't matter much, IMO

          • Right. DAO is popular with law enforcement for the same reason that revolvers used to be: operation is very simple and very consistent, and you can just draw and fire. Many, like glocks, have the safety built into the trigger so there are no controls to mess with between spotting and shooting the threat.

For a low-end target shooting pistol, any kind of trigger is perfectly fine. In fact, single action has a lighter pull so it'll be easier to shoot properly.

            • And actually, law enforcement has begun a drift back to revolvers since they misfire less.

              • I think it probably has more to do with the aesthetics than the practicality.

                • No, it doesn't. A revolver will practically never misfire. You think they give a damn how it looks? You're funny.

                  • Modern semi-automatics(Glocks, XD family, M&Ps, Beretta 92s, etc) don't really have misfire problems unless there's something fishy with the ammo. I don't think the trade off in ammo capacity/reloading speed for something that probably won't happen is worth it.

Do I think that there are lots of police officers full of gun machismo? Um, yes, absolutely.

                          • Modern semi-autos are just as or more reliable than revolvers and they have a much higher capacity, plus reloading is simpler. Reliability comes down not getting terrible ammunition. Police departments usually test their ammo with their guns extensively before fielding it.

Glocks have a well-deserved reputation of being absurdly reliable and very easy to service.

Some revolvers, such as the ones made by Taurus, have a reputation for very low quality and frequent jamming and misfire issues.

I haven't seen a cop carrying a revolver for a very long time, perhaps ever.

                            • Actually, my 357 magnum "jammed" all the time when I first got it. After firing a dozen rounds the cylinder would abruptly stop turning. Initially the only way to get it working was to let it cool down a bit. It's gotten much better over time, but I still consider it the least reliable of my three pistols.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
