  • It's looking increasingly likely that this election won't change anything at all. Intrade now has "Democratic President + Democratic Senate + Republican House of Rep. after 2012 elections" at 62.5%. Get ready for four more years of partisan gridlock.

You have a sudden career opening in stand up comedy ?

Or you've recently suffered a traumatic blow to one of your temporal lobes ?

Either would be a good explanation for this post.

it is not hard to have better critical thinking and intelligence than him.
So why do you act like the proverbial stunned mullet whenever (and it seems to be happening ever more frequently) I treat your posts with the disdain they deserve ? After all, if it's so easy to have 'better critical thinking and intelligence' than me, why aren't you utilising those easily accessed resources ?

The only thing he has going for him is the ability to pull up tangentially related facts on command.
No, I can also tie my shoelaces unaided, and count to 100 in French. That's two more things.

              'Pretty sure' ?

Based on what ? Tree rings ? A feeling in your water ? The cost of living in Oban in 1697 ? Guess we'll never know. Oh wait...

I don't have the data but from what I have read
              Well, that's handy.

and would have a public school system in the early 19th whereas I do not believe Scotland had any such things
Scotland had the parish schools, the burgh schools and colleges and universities.

I don't have the facts but I would be very surprised if the periphery of Great Britain was so educated.
You mean, like St. Andrew's University ? Or Marischal and King's Colleges, in Aberdeen ?

Again, I have no hard data, but I do believe it is reasonable to surmise
Why ? St Andrew's is Scotland's oldest university, and the third oldest in the English speaking world. Lowland Scots spoke a dialect of English that was understood across the border, and Mediaeval Scottish literature is also one of the glories of literature in Mediaeval English- and both Henryson and Dunbar admired Chaucer. The culture in Lowland Scotland was much more like the culture in England than that of the Scottish Highlands or Western Isles- which until the end of the 17th Century was much more Irish and Catholic.
