Um, yeah they are. They're both slurs, and when I hear the word "******" I think of anti-gay violence.

And when I hear the word "honkey" I think of anti-white violence. Anti-white violence exists and is terrible, to be sure, but somebody equating "honkey" to "******" is being stupid.

White people have never been a disadvantaged group in America.

Yeah, I gathered that. I'm talking about anti-white violence.

Mobile police need your help to catch a mob that beat Matthew Owens so badly that he’s in critical condition.

According to police, Owens fussed at some kids playing basketball in the middle of Delmar Drive about 8:30 Saturday night. They say the kids left and a group of adults returned, armed with everything but the kitchen sink.

Police tell News 5 the suspects used chairs, pipes and paint cans to beat Owens.

Owens’ sister, Ashley Parker, saw the attack. “It was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed.” Parker says 20 people, all African American, attacked her brother on the front porch of his home, using “brass buckles, paint cans and anything they could get their hands on.”

What Parker says happened next could make the fallout from the brutal beating even worse. As the attackers walked away, leaving Owen bleeding on the ground, Parker says one of them said “Now thats justice for Trayvon.”
Again, anti-white violence exists and it's terrible, but that doesn't make "honkey" equivalent to "******."

If you want to say that homosexuals and African-Americans have been victimized by the same magnitude of discrimination then go ahead, just be warned that you're being an idiot.

People used to go to jail for sodomy, so it's not like homosexuality was more acceptable than being black. IMO.

Homosexuals had the option of not engaging in sodomy. Blacks didn't have the option of not being black.

Or just engaging in sodomy in secret.

Obviously it is better to have an open and tolerant society where gays don't have to be closeted but it has never been the same for gay people as black people.

Funnily enough I read Thomas Sowell's book on this issue recently.
Sowell argues that Southerners generally have been a disadvantaged group in America owing to the redneck culture common to both Southern whites and blacks. (In the case of blacks the culture emigrated with them to the North when Southern blacks emigrated Northwards, and swamped the educated Northern black culture by force of sheer numbers). Generally Southerners valued bravado, self-image pride over hard work, education and achievement. Sowell attributes the redneck culture to the fact that Southerners predominantly emigrated from northern England and Scotland before and around the 18th centuries. At that time northern English and Scottish culture was very barbaric and warlike so people had no reason to make long term plans, let alone read.

Sowell posits that the redneck culture has been a major drag on the material development of Southerners and American blacks generally as compared to the Northerners who placed a far higher premium on education and hard work.

It really is a remarkable history: well written and well worth reading about.

For the most part, white Christian men are firmly in control of all the levers of power and influence, and we're heavily armed to boot. We're in no danger. You can stop worrying about us.

I was talking about the historical position. And the historical position is that redneck culture was a terrible weight which held back the South generally, white and black. That really doesn't have much to do with whether whites wielded power or influence which is a myopic view of whether they experienced disadvantage. Political power and material prosperity, education and wellbeing have little to do with one another. Southern whites had political power but not material wellbeing for quite some time.

As to the current position, well, I wouldn't have a clue. I read a history book not a summary of current affairs.

No, I never thought that they are of the same magnitude. I'm saying that "******" and "******" are both violent-minded slurs.

So when you said that they were equivalent you meant that they weren't equivalent?
