      Well, QFT.

A member of his staff could have been woman or man. It was a woman, but that's not indicative of all situations. Does that help at all?

How about this, if I were married to a successful lawyer, doctor or a ****ing philosopher that got paid out the ass for giving a lecture, I would pick up the kid, in all probability. I might, just because I wanted to do it. It's the generalization, the absolute, that sucks.

        • Hiring because someone is a woman, I guess? The unproven (possible) implication of an affirmative action hire?
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

I posted an article earlier which explained it in simple, explicit words for those who can't see it themselves.

Replace "women" with "Jews" and re-read it.

And — and so we — we took a concerted effort to go out and find Jews who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet.

I went to a number of Jewish groups and said, "Can you help us find folks," and they brought us whole binders full of Jews.

I was proud of the fact that after I staffed my Cabinet and my senior staff, that the University of New York in Albany did a survey of all 50 states, and concluded that mine had more Jews in senior leadership positions than any other state in America.

Now one of the reasons I was able to get so many good Jews to be part of that team was because of our recruiting effort. But number two, because I recognized that if you're going to have Jews in the workforce that sometimes you need to be more flexible. My chief of staff, for instance, had two kids that were still in school. She said, I can't work here on the Sabbath. I need to be able to get home so I can observe my religious customs. So we said fine. Let's have a flexible schedule so you can have hours that work for you.

                    • When I first saw/heard the binder thing I thought it was way overblown. After hearing all the comments and giving it more thought, I still don't think it's as offensive as people are claiming, but I can definitely see now why it can be construed as bad.

                        • I really don't see it making much difference. I assume most women are responding to him like my wife in general. (and it's not good)

Still not offensive, at least not in the way that assuming women are extra specially qualified to be teachers is, or refering to complete strangers as sweetie, or having your WH communication director describe the workplace as hostile workplace for women.

I agree with this. I don't really see it as a big deal.

I do, however, think liberals are making a horrible mistake on focusing on "Big Bird" and "Binders Full of Women". Most people know politicians make gaffes. And these things take away from the issues on where you want to hammer Romney.

                              • Can we please not forget that the main issue with the 'binders of women' thing was not just that it was ridiculous and offensive, but that it was (yet another) barefaced lie.
