  • Um...New Orleans?

1812 was the point when Britain finally fully recognized and respected the United States. In terms of strategic goals, we finally got control of the land east of the Mississippi where British forts and garrisons were still in place, and we stopped having our sailors impressed by the Royal Navy.

    • Um..White House?

We were basically busy in Europe and some colonial scuffle wasn't at the top of our radar.

We've never started respecting the United States.

      • Okay, yay, you burned Wahington. It wasn't a very big city. You couldn't take Baltimore, 20 miles away.

Ultimately Zevico's point stands of course.

        • Yah... it stands off in some field of straw. The question isn't if you need shared sovereignty in all cases, only if it was helpful in a specific case (EU).

We got bored, we had more interesting people to fight like the French.

Not really. Pointing at a few long standing allies who haven't been to war with each other and using that as a reason to discredit a union of countries who actually have been regularly at war with each other in the last couple of centuries is pretty weak reasoning.

Impressment ended because of the defeat of Napoleon and the Jay treaty had already taken care of British forts in the Northwest territory.

You recall that this was an age when the French were probably the most powerful military land force on the planet right?

Ungrateful yanks, they helped you earn independence and gave you that gaudy statue that pollutes NY harbour.

You say it is but you don't actually explain why.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

Because it's the equivilent of saying that because I've never punched my friends in the face, there is no need to have youth programs for kids from troubled areas because we never needed one.
