He has 30 health; even with the rocket, it would've been 18, which is more than enough to withstand grenades from the rest of my squad (especially considering my psi-assault had a mind shield, and my sniper had a scope, even if they were close enough to hit him with a grenade, which they weren't).

    • I've beaten that mission like, three times and each time, coordinated fire from rifles, sniper, and rocket launcher were enough. If you line up just in front of the door on the inside of the room then you won't make contact. Then you just move someone out with ghost armor to make contact before opening fire.

      • My mistake in not having ghost armor; also my mistake in mind controlling one of the Elites that spawn after killing the two Sectopods and moving him into that room; for some reason, I thought there was one more room to clear before The End. So, instead, the Elite triggered the Uber-Ethereal, the two other Ethereals, and two more Elites, while my squad was still moving through the Sectopod hall.

I've done it using a heavy for holo targeting and then two shots from a plasma sniper.

          • Snipers may be able to one shot enemies, but Ive had my heavies one shot an entire group of enemies, on the turn Ive uncovered them. Heavies may not be terribly accurate, but they dont need to be when heavy #2 blasts away all the cover.

'Squaddie' rank heavies get a 90% accuracy shot, that can hit enemies out of anyones line of site, doing enough damage to kill any early enemy. This may be why my early game was so strong, and once I survived the early game....

I beat the alien base on ironman classic (damn you Guy! for finishing it before I got to the weekend), and Ive got plasma for all. I dont want to tempt fate but I hope Im past the tipping point where failure becomes less likely, and victory more so.

Snoopy, I feel your pain. This is the first classic game that Ive gotten anywhere. Keep on trucking dude.

            • I haven't played as much as the rest of you mainly messing around on Normal. Started playing on Classic yesterday.

Yeah, it's an order of magnitude harder. You can get sloppy on Normal, mis-move a unit and not lose half your team.

              Going to start again.

              • I got tired of restarting on classic and have gone down to normal. This is too easy. I'm building the Gollop chamber ATM.

                • Labs are useless. Workshops are where it's at.

                  • I hate how in order to build workshops for more engineers I have to have more engineers

                    • Dude, the first workshop requires like 6.

                              • I had a disaster of a mission while my A team were in the first round of psi testing, I lost all my B team. So I started again on normal to pick of some achievements I didnt have, specifically to get another step towards 'a continental fellow'. Im also gunning for 'Aint no cavalry coming', so I will get to see benefits of the sniper that you guys seem to rave about.

Blackcat, I dont think I picked up the expansion, unless it was bundled with the game itself. That was just before the time I was getting on the internet so I doubt it would have appeared on my radar
