I attacked the alien base relatively late because I dawdled on doing the prerequisites, costing me Brazil. But as a result I had laser weapons.

Finally got some laser specialty weapons, and some plasma light rifles; alien base is going down tomorrow night.

Played a multiplayer match just now. Pretty fun. Snipers with squadsight and the jetpack seem hard to beat, though, and I did not appreciate being called a homosexual by my opponent.

Bought the game, but don't have 13GB of free space on the laptop, so will have to wait for either my installation of a second HDD in the laptop (possibly tomorrow) or unpacking the desktop. By the way, Windows is dumb. 30GB space allocated to the windows installation, no large software other than Office, and no significant files. Yet... don't have 13GB free space. Sigh.

Oh, I don't think so. I haven't seen any of a few creatures I've heard about, and when I tried it on my first (non-Ironman) playthrough, I nearly got to the end (I think) and didn't see anything new other than the super-powered sectoid.

There is an initial alien base raid, and after that, there is more gameplay

There are three story missions. In order to get them you have to complete objectives in other missions, while also completing the objectives of those missions (e.g. capturing an alien alive). You need the hyperwave relay to get the second mission, and the gollop chamber to get the third.

I downloaded the original from steam for $4.99. I had forgotten how much fun this game is.

OK, I've reached one of the UFOs (this is my second time downing one) and I haven't figured out how to actually beat the mission after running around the map without bad guys turn after turn. wtf?

I did, and couldn't find it. Turned out i had to blow up a wall, so I threw a grenade. I didn't realize it until I panned the camera around and saw cracks.
