What does the thread have to do with Democrats? Is this a dog whistle only you can hear?

Did Republicans introduce the pollution limits?

If you believe Oerdin, corporations introduced the blend requirement.

          Corporations can't pass laws.

          Which party passed it?

You've been the only one in this thread to bring up party. I asked if in light of recent events the blend requirement deserved a second look since it seems to be exacerbating the situation.

Asher's just sensitive that you're criticizing his home state.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Carry on.

I'm not sensitive at all on the issue. California has ****loads of real problems - this just isn't one of them.

It benefits the environment, and it benefits me fiscally. I'm all for this blend requirement.

I'd say that gas stations running out of supply in major metropolitan areas is a real problem. But hey, unlike you, I don't have real world experience as a Californian, so what do I know?

I would say so as well if I didn't understand the issue.

You don't understand it not because you haven't lived in California, but because you haven't heard anything about this issue except from right-wing posters or talking heads with agendas.

Why don't you cite a major metropolitan area without a supply of gasoline?

I don't think you understood my point.

By blaming the actions of democrats, you are blaming democrats.

If Republicans in Alabama passed such a law, I guarantee you that you would not be posting about it.

In an effort to encourage imports from other states yesterday the state legislature ordered a switched to "winter blend gasoline" which normally doesn't happen until Nov. Supposedly refineries in several other states also make this "winter blend gasoline" but I honestly have no idea how many or how far away they are.

There have only been a few so far and mostly off brand stations who normally don't sign long term contracts and instead try to live off of excess supply from each refinery. When there is no such excess supply then those independent shops get screwed as the brands will deliver to their own stations before they sell anything to the independents.

Basically, poor planning on the part of the independent station owner by failing to sign a long term contract.

Actually it does as it reduces the evaporation loses from the gasoline which then become smog also the oxygenating agent helps to make sure more complete combustion occurs so we get fewer unburned hydrocarbons at the end (which again means less smog). That said, the state should definately negotiate with other states to standardize its blending requirements so that enough competition can occur to keep prices low.
