Because if there's one thing Americans really need, it's larger portions.

Only in America would healthy food be a bad thing because a black woman supports it...actually there are probably a lot of other countries that would do the same thing.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”
"Capitalism ho!"

In this case, I wish we would copy the French. Here is a sample school menu from Paris:
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Abolition of Man

The underlying premise of a school lunch "policy" is that obesity will be "solved" if one meal a day is prescribed by federal bureaucrats who know better than parents.
If one, why not all three? No wonder this policy is a failure. It doesn't go far enough to do anything, and if it did, well the US may as well be a police state if it was really going to start prescribing what kids have to eat for every meal.
The problem of obesity isn't going to be solved with national school lunches but with parents that ensure their kids eat well and acquire healthy habits. No more and no less. That the US Congress has bought into the notion of a federal school lunch policy is simply unreal. What a sheer waste of public resources."You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

Yes, and that's the problem with the federal government providing these things. The first thing it does is "okay, let's take something states and localities do, and help them do it. We're not influencing them at all."
Then later it says "We're paying for this program, so now we get to decide how it's run."
That's why it's unnaceptable.
What's healthy for one child isn't necessarily what's healthy for another. The feds are fond of one-size-fits-all non-solutions to non-problems. I don't trust the judgment of the federal government one iota, especially not over your average parent, especially considering the blowhards in Washington have no direct reason to be interested in what happens to any individual child.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Are you seriously telling me you're voting for a congressman because of the contents of your child's lunch? Is that the factor that weighs heavily in your mind when you think of a federal congressman? The Democrats like peas but the Republicans prefer cheddar?"You say that it is your custom to burn widows.
