Imagine the irony: we finally make everyone straight, and then everyone starts acting all prison-gay.

Re: OP, I suspect it would have a gradual effect--how gradual would depend on how much the test/procedure was promoted. But I imagine a larger number of people would make gay kids straight than the reverse. Result: next generation contains fewer gays, homosexuality is less familiar, larger number of people "straighten" their kids. Next generation is even straighter, gay culture struggles to be heard, and eventually it's whittled down to an all-straight population or something very similar.

Homosexuality causes harm to the rectum. And enough damage may force an adult to wear diapers.

Asher, I think I speak for a good percentage of the straight people here when I say that I am willing to accept that Barnabas is wrong without having you go into the details at length.

But, like the many current Chinese and south-Asian communities, when genetic selection is more common, many will opt for male children over female. There is already a major imbalance in many communities, so what happens when this becomes the norm? More men will have to turn to (or away from) other men to have sex partners.
There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

I don't know that the OP went that far. The hypothetical is simply that science discovers a simple genetic "on/off switch" for homosexuality, and the implied consequence is that parents would turn it off with such near-uniformity that the genetic sequence would eventually be eradicated.

If that's the scenario, without any sort of government intervention, I'm just curious who it is that would oppose such a movement. In theory the social left should be fine with it because they're all about a woman's right to choose what to do with her body between conception and birth, and the social right should be fine with it because it gets rid of the gays they apparently have some problem with, so who would have a problem with it?
              Unbelievable!

Gays tend to be very sensitive people who contribute a lot to arts so they are valuable. Would the "cured" homosexuals lose that tendency? Or would they be heterosexuals who like divas and liza minelli?

Notice how Kuci claims to have evidence, but won't quantify the harm done by homosexuality existing. The most he's offered is some personal anecdotes which don't even address the subject matter (overall happiness in life).

Also notice how he's running away from the logical conclusion of his statements. Homosexuality is a harm to the general welfare. We'd be better off without homosexuality. There is an acceptable cost to achieve this. Yet he's too scared of his own shadow to actually quantify that acceptable cost because he knows his entire position is so ****ing sick that the only option is to try to obfuscate and run away.

No. What he's saying is that people who are homosexual lead less happy lives due to the fact that they are homosexual, and therefore parents, who typically prefer their children to be happy, would elect to have heterosexual children if given the option. His evidence is in the form of the overwhelming amount of empirical data surrounding the comparative happiness of heterosexual and homosexual people.

                    • The most probably future outcome is that both a pill to reverse homosexuality in those already born, and a test to screen for it and fix it in the unborn would exist. Obviously no parent is going to choose not to go with the treatment. There will be those die hards who are overly idealistic and naive, but those children would more than likely take the pill at the first opportunity. That just leaves those who are already in relationships and who have "come to accept themselves" or are the type who "like themselves as they are." Since they are not immortal, they will die off in time. You're looking at about 50 years or so before homosexuality would be completely eradicated, and I would suspect that it would become a rarity in the first 10 years. News stories someday might do stories on that rare homosexual who refuses to change.
