I had a similar reaction when I moved to KC.

      "Wow, Arnold is Orowheat here!"
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Kroger in Ohio is Fred Meyer in Idaho, although they're starting to consolidate all of their generics under the Kroger label (e.g. when I first moved to Idaho they had Fred Meyer cream of mushroom soup, now they have Kroger cream of mushroom soup)

            This exactly.

It is true, juice has some nutritional value compared to pop, such as vitamin C and whatnot, but you'll get just as many vitamins and minerals--with far less sugar--if you just eat the damned fruit instead.

We had this discussion here about 2 years ago. I posted the thread. Gepap defended my argument but KH came in here, they went at it, and everyone was all like Speer is an idiot.

Well, that's hardly the only time that has happened.

                    What about stuff like this?
A Princeton University research team has demonstrated that all sweeteners are not equal when it comes to weight gain: Rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup gained significantly more weight than those with access to table sugar, even when their overall caloric intake was the same.

And don't eat the fruit dried. The problem with dried fruit is you can consume considerably more of the stuff than whole fruit. Think about a handful of raisins and how easy that is to down. Now imagine if those raisins were actual grapes and you'd probably not eat that much.

This is also informative and is a reason why people like Az who posts here don't even eat fruit:

Yeah but when the argument comes from someone else, it's not a problem. From me, it's Apolyton Twilight Zone and I'm an idiot.

The problem with a program like this is that the government is made up of idiots who may ban eggs and red meat or something.

It was probably a different argument that you've decided to equate to saying "drinking lots of juice is good for you" for unknown reasons.

Umm... no, you fool. I'm talking about the government limiting what can be bought with food stamps. What do you think this thread is about?

Oh, you're arguing that the government should restrict food stamps purchases? That wasn't clear because you made the claim that the government is a bunch of idiots in post #55.

Yes fool. I was stating the caveat I noticed and that I posted in the original thread years ago. I'm wary of the government (ketchup is a vegetable) being arbiters of nutrition. However, the fact that people can and do buy cakes, soda, candy, etc. with food stamps is still not good since the program is supposed to help people, not result in increased obesity.

See when honest people make arguments, they note problems with their argument, since very little is 100% perfect or clear-cut.

The only thing you said on the matter in this thread was the caveat, so how was I supposed to know you were making the opposite argument? Guynemer was complaining about how the government was dumb enough to think people should be encouraged to give their children juice. You gave no indication that you actually wanted these people you consider incompetent idiots to start controlling people more.
