Honestly, I don't think Civ playing means much. You'd be surprised by who plays Civ. I know people from the hood who are inexplicably into Civ.

Hell, I know a guy who just got arrested for dealing weed who played Civ... when he got out of jail from a previous arrest, he asked me if I had Civ 5 yet... he was reading about it in gamer magazines while he was locked up and was intrigued by what he thought were improvements over Civ 4.

Real talk. You can't make this stuff up

It's one of gaming's best selling franchises for a reason. It wouldn't be if just nerds played it.

Depends what you mean by 'play'. I pirated Civ 1 and 2 and tried them out; put in maybe 20 hours. I bought Civ 3 for 4.99 about two years ago and played it about the same. Got Civ 4 for just as cheap after Civ 5 came out and put in 25 hours according to Steam's time counter. I did buy and play Call to Power 2 way back when, though, and enjoyed that game more than Civ. I think that'll be met with derision here but CTP was better than Sid Meier's versions.

For comparison, I put in over 100 hours in Skyrim, 70 hours in Fallout New Vegas, 169 hours in Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer alone, 165 hours in Medieval II Total War, 178 hours in EU3, 65 hours in Shogun II, etc.

Civ ticks me off because it's so ****ing unrealistic. I'm really into preclassical antiquity, the early development of civilization, and cliodynamics. Civ gets everything so wrong.

Why did you join Poly, then?

          ...

I would guess that there is a difference between the type of people who happened to have played Civ before and the type of people who join and remain with a Civ community for years on end.

Forum attack. In March 1999, Giant Squid flooded Age of Empires Heaven. I was part of the counter-attack.

I never played Civ before coming here.

Before my time. I joined in the run up to Civ 3's release after playing Civ 1 and Civ 2 with no concept of this whole online community thing.

I still say there are several hundred thousand to even a million geniuses out there right now on the level of an Isaac Newton... and that means smarter than KH.

Even the top 0.01% comes to over 660,000 individuals.

So you can still say 7 billion are stupider than him but that still leaves half a million who are smarter.

The claim that we have the 20,000th smartest individual of all time in KH is complete nonsense.

You realise he said it to wind people like you up? The validity of the claim is pretty much irrelevant, unless KH has a weird validation complex involving Poly.

Around 100 billion people have ever lived so without taking things like the Flynn effect into account he would need to be in the top 1400 smartest people currently living. A lot more than 1400 people are capable of getting a Physics PhD and making a six figure income. However, relatively few people have defeated Apolyton so his claims may be credible after all.
