I don't remember quite this much hate a few years ago. What did *I* miss?

Also, BK, how long were you banned for and why?

For being such an excellent Christian that he threatened to beat up Loin repeatedly for "dissing" David Floyd, calling him an immoral racist or something equally accurate. Which, it turns out, constitutes assault and is against the law, however laughable the threat may be. So we were free for six months.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

A few years ago, BK was still the polite, even likeable, poster with scary politics. Sure, he tended to ignore other whatever positions other posters made in order to make his bizarre, reactionary points, but that was all part of his charm.

In recent years, however, he has come across as increasingly bitter, making his posts (often on the exact same points as before) seem hateful rather than just out of touch with reality. This lead to the bulk of regular posters here to slide over from a "crazy, but harmless" position to the "kill it with fire" line that has held by a tiny minority (lol Asher LOL) all along.

There are still those of us, though, who still like him as a person and/or realize that the actual content of his posts hasn't changed at all since he registered, and attribute the change in tone to whatever **** he's been going through in his life outside of Poly. This group sees that, whatever BK's faults, Apolyton is worse off for not having him around, just as it is worse off without other "colourful" posters, like Ned, Fez and Agathon.

Ben is annoying because the way he debates makes it almost impossible to conduct an intelligent discussion. It doesn't just have to do with the fact that he's a vitriolic hatemonger. He's downright disruptive and consistently, impossibly wrong about everything.

That's always been true, though. Something else has changed in the last couple of years.

Hey now, don't start conflating Ben with Oerdin.

                      Oerdin doesn't have a monopoly on always-wrongness.

                          Good post, Joncha.

I used to play Civ2 Succession Games with BK, back when this was a gaming site. Ben was a positive contributor to that late, lamented group (the Scouse Gits were the ringleaders). So no matter what I think of Ben's politics or opinions on football, apparently the fact that I had fun gaming with him -- back in the day, when Civ was Civ and Poly was Poly -- trumps it.

I'd put it down to group think or clique-ism, with some anti-Catholic prejudice on the side.
