What do you mean we? That was mostly accomplished under British, French, and Spanish Jusidicition, before there even was a USA.

The European phase of colonization probably took out close to half, but we did the rest. I don't think the eastern seaboard had the highest concentration of native americans during the pre-colonial days, I think the greatest concentration of native american population was in the Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee river basins. Those are the areas where native americans even made abortive attempts at forming civilizations, complete with cities.

And much of those fell to imported disease before the USA existed. Some conquistadors, French trappers, and British Traders were all it took to smash their populations by infection. The western expansion of the USA would have been very different if the mid continent and western tribes had been at their pre Columbian population.
