                        Actually that's standard obstetric practice, though there are exceptions. First, sometimes there will be an abbreviated false menstrual period two weeks after fertilization. In such cases using the usual system of calculating the date of conception would set the beginning of the pregnancy 4 weeks too late. Second, a woman can be fertile even though she has irregular or abnormal menstrual periods. In such cases using the date of the last menses is unreliable.

                          Was the same for us last year (and was the same on all the American pregnancy websites my wife signed up to)
