I for one welcome a greater diversity of views being allowed a spot on the radio.

What does this have to do with a diversity of views and not just increasing the availability of spectrum? I strongly doubt that there is any political motive here.

Also, what is it with people on the left getting all upset about right-wing media outlets? There are plenty of liberal media outlets out there; there's no need to feel excluded just because you have little presence on talk radio.

I can't think of one prominent wide spread liberal radio network other than Air America which I believe went bankrupt a few years ago because it was under capitalized. Pacifica Radio is liberal but they only have two stations as far as I can remember (one in the bay area and one in LA) but there are no large scale liberal radio stations. Oh, and please don't claim NPR is "liberal" because then you'd be confusing fact based journalism with being liberal.

NPR is liberal;, there's no getting around that. Saying that it is liberal is different from saying that it isn't factual. The reporting is not bad. But it is liberal. In any case I wasn't about to bring that up.

My point is that a lack of a presence among liberals in the talk radio arena shouldn't be disquieting to anyone since they are already perfectly well-represented. There are plenty of very much mainstream left-leaning outlets, such as the New York Times. On the other hand, prior to Fox News and of talk radio shows like Rush Limbaugh, there was very little conservative media presence.

I've noticed that when conservatives complain about the media, it's about their general notion that the media is liberal, whereas when liberals complain about the media, it consists of bemoaning the very existence of certain franchises that they don't agree with.

No, anyone who claims NPR is liberal is not just wrong but completely wrong. It follows journalism standards to the letter. I would agree that MSNBC is liberal but they're at least transparent about it which makes them a case of advocacy journalism. Fox on the other hand is literally nothing but propaganda as it breaks all the basic journalism rules and is not transparent about it's advocacy; they claim to be "fair & balanced" when their extreme right tilt is so documented it's unbelievable. I can't call any of the other major networks liberal or conservative by any objective standard. Like I said, most conservatives who whine about the supposed "liberal media" are simply upset by fact based objective journalism and have no clue what they're talking about.

Yes, conservatives are indeed generally delusional and think "Anyone who presents facts I don't like must be liberals" even if the station is in fact presenting entirely fact based objective journalism which follows all the journalist standards. To compare liberals do indeed complain about individual stations which do not adhere to standard journalism practices and which in fact engage in obvious advocacy while refusing to publicly admit to be POV advocates. There is a major difference between those two positions. One is delusion and non-factually based while the other is rational and based on facts. That's just reality, man.

Careful, Dinner, HC will call you stupid, and Felch will call you retarded for simply valuing diversity in radio.

I know, right? I grew up in a rural town of 350 people, and lived there until I was twenty. And I turned out to be conservative . . .

Careful HC, I couldn't get all the way through Atlas shrugged, and I'm a voracious reader who agrees with a lot of the underlying philosophy. Ayn Rand simply wasn't a novelist.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
