  • I don't think we know enough to know if this was racially motivated at all, but I think the idea that it wasn't racially motivated becaue Zimmerman is hispanic is hilarious. Anyway, race isn't the important part of the issue. That a young kid was killed for no particularly good reason is.

Exactly. There's plenty of far more obvious incidents, so why invent facts to fit the pre-arranged picture?

George Zimmerman was released on $150,000 bail late Sunday night in what the Associated Press called a “low-key event.” Threats of death from the Twitter lynch mob were anything but low-key.

One genius called for the mob to murder Zimmerman because she thinks charges just disappear when someone makes bail.

@Stallionnett101 Once u been convicted of a crime & let out on bail u can't be charged 2x for the same thing so that means sum1 gonna have to kill Zimmerman

        • I posted this from facebook a few weeks ago. There were a crapload of these going around:

The opposition to him getting bail recently was staggering as well.

Black people wanting to lynch someone... can anything be more disturbingly ironic?

I think people really think this was a hate crime akin to the guys in Texas who dragged the Black guy with their pickup truck. How the **** do they get that idea?

Al Sharpton. A media class that quite happily has Al Sharpton on a tv show with nary a word or a whisper of protest among that media class. An entire political party happy to ally with Sharpton and present him as a voice of moderation, as Eric Holder recently did. And, of course, I use Sharpton is merely as the symbol of a larger problem of racialism in the United States. As long as racial grievance, racial guilt, and the farce of racialism continues unchecked, you'll have people like Sharpton, or these people on facebook, or the New Black Panthers out there calling for Zimmerman's head and putting a bounty "dead or alive" on him to boot.

Even Obama's "if I had a son" comment is nothing more than a blase statement of racial sympathy for a boy who happened to share the colour of his skin. And so what? Why should that matter? If Obama married a "Latino" (whatever that is) or a white (whatever that is) then maybe he could say "If I had married a white and had a son he'd look like Zimmerman." My point is that Obama's comment was not merely a hypothetical and in a sense pointless musing, which it was. It is that the choice of this particular musing belied a dangerous sympathy for someone not because he was a victim or a criminal but because he was black, involved in a fight with someone who wasn't, and died. Well, his life ended tragically-no doubt about it. But that has naught to do with how he looks and everything to do with the character, personality and choices of the alleged criminal and the alleged victim.

Racialist ideas have long been a part of the American body politic though they have dissipated greatly in more recent times. But racialism as a phenomenon still exists and its defenders are now the people in charge.

The tragedy is that racialism is so much part and parcel of American culture that race-baiting and lynch mob-like threats are not surprising. What do you expect from a country where a woman who opines that her gender and ethnicity makes her "better" than her fellows can and does obtain a Supreme Court judgeship? Even if only a minority of people accept such ideas, dangerous consequences may follow. Racialism has sown its seed and borne its fruit: the virtual lynch mob. Passive acceptance of the virtual lynch mobs may lead to the rise of real lynch mobs.

                        • Zevico, that's all a very nice thought and true, as far as it goes; but if you're peddling the notion that race relations may be strained in only the USA, I'm not buying.

                            • How are you so easily confused? I've said nothing of the sort.

And to think that you, of all people, are making any sort of concrete case against the media is flatly ridiculous. You've only posted articles that defend Zimmerman. You even posted an article about how Zimmerman's father thinks he's a good guy, which was laughably ridiculous. You cherry pick a bunch of comments from loons and claim that it's the media's fault. That you picked only anti-Zimmerman comments as well, further contributes to the fact that you seem to be more upset at "black" outrage which you want to dismiss as a product of the "liberal" media rather than a possibly legitimate feeling of racial injustice (a few loons aside). You're not being subtle here so quit playing obtuse.
