They re-brand themselves as evangelicals. Before they did this there were some evangelical groups that were actually rather left-wing, now its all confused. I demand that Fox begin referring to al-Qaeda as Islamic evangelicals so these twits will revert to their proper name.
That's not exactly true. Fundamentalists began referring to themselves as "evangelicals" in the 50s and 60s and generally referred to themselves as such in the 1980s.

Got nothing to do with this Jesus crap.
Nationalism is no higher truth. There is no reason to be proud of where you had the luck to be born.

I meant that I was far less of a douche than you were. People on this site thought me a very polite Republican when I was 20 (2000 AD).

Yeah, but what if it's because your country is legitimately better than everyone else's?

Then you'd obviously not be born in the US .

I'm not talking about nationalism. I'm talking about liberty, freedom, and all that good America stuff. It's for everyone. Everyone in the world.

Which for the past fifty years or so has been fed to various third-world countries like an hors d'oeuvre, skewered delicately on the end of a bayonet and seasoned with a mix of platitudes and cultural superiority.

First of all, freedom is not for everyone, not the kind you speak of. It never has been and never will be in this fallen world.

Second, the kind of freedom, Jesus speaks of is for everyone. It's freedom from this world and all it's hypocricy.

All the freedom they want except for freedom from America invading their country and dropping bombs on everything

Evangelical means "rooted in the gospels", the term was widely adopted by protestant reformers 500 years ago. At the time it specificaly referred to faith based on the Bible alone, rejecting the validity of traditions not specifically enumerated in the Bible, i.e., Papal infallibility and a variety of other Roman Catholic traditions. Fundamentalism (Christian) is an ideology that evolved in the late 19th century in the United States largely in response to Darwinism. Fundamentalist endorse the literal truth of every word of the Bible. The difference is that evangelical specifically refers to worship and the structure of the Church, while fundamentalism was intended to embrace every aspect of life. A true fundamentalist can't embrace Darwinism, but an evangelical can. At one time in the UK their were a number of socialist evangelical movements, such as the Fabian Society, the forerunner of the Labor Party. There ain't never been nor ever will be socialist fundamentalists.

To complicate matters "evangelicalism" refers to the spreading of Christian teachings.

I never understood why the question of whether someone believes in Darwinism or not has anything to do with their christianity. Some people seem to think rejecting Darwinism makes someone bad.

You seem to think that you have to be smart to be a christian. I thought you knew about these things.
