I tend to support the guy. I have memories of my brother telling my mom that he had no business washing his own clothes (it was her job). And not at 10 or 12, really something like 18-19.

Well, at least we know where the teenage daughter got the drama queen gene from. That guy's even worse than she is.

Wow, a teenager whines about her parents to her friends. Surely this is the first time in all history that has happened.

I agree, a teenager needs to be educated.

              Worst. Parenting. Ever.

Stooping to your kid's level of emotional maturity and bullying her in public (not to mention: with effing firearms!) in the name of "discipline" is an epic fail of the first magnitude. What he shot was any hope of a normal relationship with his daughter.

I know letting go is hard to do but as children stop being children, start driving cars, get jobs, and start living their own lives you have to respect their boundaries a bit more and that includes not snooping through her private writings.

Second of all when you give someone a gift it is no longer your property but the property of the person you gave it too. Yes, for a child you can restrict them from using it because children aren't adults but for someone in their mid to late teens they're almost legal adults and you need to start transitioning. That means you don't give them a gift and then take it back the next day because you got your little feelings hurt. Also if you're not a violent psychopath you don't go shooting firearms and destroying other people's property. It's no wonder this douche bag is divorced and his kid hates him because he sounds like a complete ass; worse his violent outburst didn't achieve anything constructive at all and only further alienated his daughter from him.

Damnit, I just agreed with Oerdin.

Also, pretty ironic the jackass was mad at her for throwing a tantrum online, so he... throws a tantrum online. Way to model good behavior ass hat.

I disagree. I don't think it was the whining on-line. I think it was her attitude; and I don't think it would have mattered if it had been privately discussed. It's a varying degree of attitude problem.

Well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and like I said, I can totally see where the young lady got her drama queen gene from.

I'm seeing this discussed all over the internet, and it's interesting to note how the ones most ardently defending the actions of the bonkers father are, without fail, the ones I considered least capable of raising a child adequately.

It's blowing off steam. I do it. You do it. We all do it. I think if I suggested you get punished for it that you'd quite rightly tell me to go **** myself.

If a teen wants to privately beef about their parents to each other, fine. But to publish a beef telling them to get off their lazy asses etc etc -- not fine. Who sees that ? Every kid that knows her parents-- other cousins? relatives?

I think the guy is an idiot for shooting the computer and doing the video (except that he just did it for the minute of fame anyway)

If my child did that to me I would simply take their computer, phone and everything and sell it. Any child of mine that so severly disrespects me would regret it.

OH and whomever said you cannot take back a gift from your own child is full of it. If one wants to get technical then anything I provide my child in the way of computers or phones etc etc I will consider MY PROPERTY provided for their use and which I can take back at any time.

And if they buy it themselves they are subject to parental authority as to when and how it may be used (never if a parent chooses). Parenting is not a democracy. Oh and her chores seemed reasonable and very light by his version and not even that heavy by her version

Sometimes severe discipline is called for.

In 9th grade a guy wrote and submitted a graphic graphic filthy sex story to our English teacher-- a stern old guy (all us guys had read it beforehand and never thought he would submit it . It probably didn't help that the heroine was a hot young female staff member. He was grounded for a YEAR and his parents followed through. he never went anywhere and most days after school he was splitting wood with an axe for a couple of hours.

AS a 9th grader I appreciated his guts in submitting that story.

AS a parent now I appreciate what his parents did.

If you blow off steam verbally with friends thats one thing-- If you start calling down your employer generraly or supervisor specifically on anything that is publicly available ( even if just to your 300 "friends"

Sorry, Oerdin, it was not a private writting. It was a public (or restricted) Facebook post. Besides, at 15-16, I feel the parents have every right... no, not a right, but a responsability, to keep on top of their kids cyber activity. I have personally seen the outcome of cyber stalking, bullying and child enticement.

A gift from me to my child, is still mine and I can take it away in anyway shape or form. It doesn't matter if it's a ball or a computer; If they misuse it, I can take it away (and I'm the one who decides if its been misused). Would I shoot it? Not a ****ing chance.

Speaking of shooting the computer, that man could be in alot of trouble. There are laws against firing a gun inside city limits, and there looked to be quite a bit of traffic in the background. He will also probably have to show proof of ownership (and I'd also want him to go to both a gun safety course and anger management).

I'd also like to point out that we don't have all the information on this incident. It's quite possible that this Hanna girl is a big trouble maker and regularly breaks the rules of the house. The only info we are given about past issues is that she was grounded 3 months ago for a similar cyber incident. I, personally, wouldn't ground my kids for that note if it was the first time something like that had happened. Maybe grounded for the 2nd/3rd time something like that happens. And, of course, if it keeps happening, the punishment would keep getting worse.

Now don't go thinking that I think what he did was good or the right thing to do or that I would do something similar. I wouldn't.
