BTW while we're on the subject of the conservative mind there is this little gem from alternet which isn't new and seems to pop up every year or so but it's nice to see additional research confirming what we already know.
Conservatives are by nature fearful people. Seriously, they're afraid of just about everything that's not familiar to them and as a group they're generally a bunch of frightened bed wetters. It's pretty clear Republican politicians know this fact too which is why they spend so much time, the majority of their time in public really, trying to make their followers even more afraid. Let's not forget that Conservatives are also the least informed and knowledgeable large political group in America so have ignorant know nothings who are frightened by their own shadows. No wonder politicians love them.
