I agree with you on affirmative action being a ridiculous idea, but then, why not take advantage if you can?

Hispanic is not a race, hispanic is just being a Spanish speaker from Spain or a former colony of Spain. Néstor Kirchner, the ex president of Argentina (who died in 2010) was half Swiss half Croat, and no one would have considered him not hispanic. Peru had an ethnic Japanese president the whole 90s, Alberto Fujimori. In the USA you can see that many dominicans and porto ricans are heavily black, while many of the Mexicans are close to being native americans. Hispanic is not a race, so he can claim to be one.

Fair enough. I just dispute the notion of the existence of "positive racism". It's a zero sum game.

Possibly. We liked that it offered him both "Laz" and the more conventional "Max" as names to go by for short. My wife was vaguely, but not really, tempted to call him Neon Turbo Maximus, which sounds like a Saturday morning cartoon but is actually the names of three Greek saints.

Thanks, but that's actually my wife, who's already got experience basically raising her nephew till he was five. I can tell the kid's immediate effect will be to make me less eager to laze around at home. The little blaggard's already unleashed a good portion of his projectile arsenal.

While I love my son and think he's beautiful, I fully realize that, like most babies of Caucasian ancestry, he looks more or less like a little Winston Churchill.
