  • proto-hipsters

I just realized that my cohort (it seems to be composed of people born 1975-1982) probably spawned hipsters.

The last 5 songs on my pandora playlist were:

It's Not You It's Me (Coconut Records, Jason Schwarzman b. 1980)
Kids (MGMT, Benjamin Goldwasser b. 1982)
Steady, As She Goes (Raconteurs, Jack White b. 1975)
Diplomat's Son (Vampire Weekend, Ezra Koenig b. 1984)
Just Dance (**** all you haters )

The progression in birthdates is obvious to me.

By the time Vampire Weekend rolls around we are completely into d-bag hipster territory.

    I apologize to the world.

I like this better from two Drexel U. students:

That video on the vevo channel has 16 million views, more than the Kids video on the MGMT vevo channel. Progress

Yes, Duh. Our generation is the same generation of the first new-hipsters.
I know this because when I am hanging at hipster clubs and bars, I am one of the old ones. :/

So since I was born in 1980, does this make me a proto-hipster, or just a dirty d-bag hipster?

1983 just missed the cut and we're feeling fine.

That means you're a hipster. You're from the Bay Area but live in Seattle so your hipster probability is at 97%

Does Philly even have hipsters? Al has given me the impression that it's a giant ghetto.

Yes. And we have blipsters. I think Philly originated blipsters from the neo-soul movement but 'Kanye-ism' took it to the next level.

Whoever dressed Steve Urkel probably also contributed to hipsters:

Holy ****. I just google image searched hipster and saw this. It's apparently Kanye West and his entourage:

Kanye b. 1977, by the way.

You have no idea how to categorize things meaningfully.

The Bay Area was using "hella" and "hecka" before it was cool. [/sohipster]
