Or is it literally just clicking on a wizard that guides you through entering numbers into the accounting package these days?

I use H&R Block's online tax doohickey, and it's literally just using a wizard (even when itemizing deductions). Doubtless they'd need to hire people like Kidicious to run the wizard for people who aren't comfortable using the online version.

It depends on what you do.

Auditors have to be able to tell if the numbers are right. Some accountants also work in IT. Managerial accountants manage costs and efficiency. etc...
