I just bought this book and I'm waiting for Amazon to mail it to me. Supposedly he goes into the tactics of Corporate Raiders, details the difference between them and classic investors (C.R. have a focus on the short term while classic investors are looking at the long term), and one whole chapter is dedicated to Bain Capital. Supposedly over half of Bain's victims went bankrupt in short order because he'd loaded them up with debt, killed all R&D, sold off everything they could sell, and then just dumped the company to die so the banks, employees, and other investors lose everything even while Romney & Co got hundreds of millions. Even Bain's "success stories" were not happy stories of businesses turned around and made stronger; take Domino's Pizza which he ran into the ground and almost had to declare bankruptcy before someone else bought the company for next to nothing and slowly rebuilt the brand. Corporate Raiders are not a good force (where as actual investors who try to rebuild companies are) and I don't buy their arguments about "creative destruction" or "liberating capital" especially the later because C.R. types end up destroying far more capital then they "liberate" but they don't care if they screw everyone else as long as they personally can steal some cash in short order.

So...Romney just needed to meet a sweet-natured hooker who looks like Julia Roberts?

I await your detailed critique of Channel 5 with near-priapic levels of excitement. The genesis of the "evil Finn" concept- Evil, evil Finland

I wouldn't bother. Suggesting that nobody should comment on global events unless they are familiar with all the editorial standards on every national TV channel in the nation in question is only necessary if you can't use common sense and ask the right questions.
Like I did.
In this thread.

In the same thread you've described the Iowa caucus as an overblown opinion poll, and the New Hampshire primary as a global event. Someone with common sense would see it's neither. This primary is a national issue. After all, what does it matter to you who wins the election?John Brown did nothing wrong.

I'd hardly go to mainstream American television news for an in depth analysis of American politics or history.
For lowest common denominator sitcoms, soaps and advertising orgies, yes....Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

Nope. The issue of who gets chosen to fight the US election is a global event.
Hence it being covered in the UK media on a daily basis. Common sense might suggest that indicates a high level of global interest, but that's a difficult concept to get across to Ron Paul's isolationist supporters and simpletons like C0ckney. Right, C0ckney?
Within that issue of global interest, the Iowa caucus was a glorified opinion poll.
Anyway, by merely trying to exclude input from non-Americans, you're not really trying. A real Ron Paul supporter would refuse to pay any attention to anyone who didn't get their worldview entirely from Alex Jones.Last edited by Bugs ****ing Bunny; January 12, 2012, 14:21.The genesis of the "evil Finn" concept- Evil, evil Finland

it's cute that you think your posts in this thread would qualify as input."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.
