Yes, rather than raise the limit on IRA contributions we could do a complete overhaul of the tax system. Taking the path of most resistance

Yes, people who got into debt under the current tax system would see their debt effectively reduced if we switched to a national sales tax, just as people who saved under the current system would see the value of their savings effectively reduced by an increase in the sales tax. Why you propose a redistribution of wealth from people who saved to people who borrowed for the intended purpose of promoting saving is a mystery to me. Hell, why don't we just have the government declare that all currently existing debts are now void and everyone starts over with a clean slate? I bet that would really spur saving and investment.
    1) remove the cap on iras (currently at something ridiculous like 5k a year)
    2) remove the income cap on eligibility (something like 170k for a married couple)
    3) remove restrictions on when you can withdraw the money

You now essentially have a vat system plus corporate taxes. That brings us to

    4) remove corporate taxes

      • Forget the newsletters. He could be caught eating live human babies and they'd still declare him to be the best hope for America.

        • He's not the best hope. He's just the best candidate. He'd still be the best candidate, even if he were eating live babies.

          • Ah the 'at least the trains run on time' position. Very noble.

            • Ron Paul won't make the trains run on time. He'll do away with Amtrak, and what trains persist will be allowed to go at their own pace.

Why not? Is the current tax system perfect? Is it impossible to improve? You're brand of conservatism is deeply troubling. If there's a way to make things better, we should consider it. Tossing out good ideas just because they represent change is unhealthy for society.

Luckily there are more debtors than savers in this country. The average person would benefit from a shift. It's strange how I am both a horrible monster who wants poor people to starve, and a crazy commie who wants to destroy capitalism, but I guess there's no logic or coherence to your opposition is there? You're just an arch-conservative who fears all forms of change or progress.
I'm not "tossing out good ideas because they represent change", I'm tossing out an idea because there's a better one. Any alternative that provides the same benefits while making less changes is probably easier to implement and therefore a better thing to advocate. And if your goal is to boost savings I think a redistribution of wealth from people who saved in the past to people who borrowed is a serious flaw, so you should prefer the alternative that wouldn't do that.

                  • WRT the whole racism brouhaha, I imagine the majority of the GOP candidates, on some level, hate/fear black people (AKA Underprivileged Urban Youth). See, for example, Newt's proposal to have poor persons who may or may not be of a dark persuasion learn the value of hard work *cough*andnotsmokingcrack*cough* by scrubbing school toilets. The difference is that Ron Paul, at one point, was silly enough to come out and say it explicitly in print/while cameras were running.

Which is why the whole thing will drag him down like an anvil, even if his more eccentric policies don't.

This is a reference to a 1952 episode - hehehe.

I don't think he's homophobic or bigoted, actually. He's just wacky.
