The first yahoo comment I saw on an article about this:

Kim Jong Il was a man of peace. America has been in at least 10 wars since the 1950s. North Korea 0 wars in that time. We should be trying to be more like North Korea, a peaceful nation. Look at how much the people loved him, they are all crying. We hate our leaders in America. We hate Obama. We hate Bush. N Korea loved Kim Jong Il. People should stop saying such hateful things and learn to love each like the message of peace that Kim Jong Il was able to convey to his beloved people. So when are Republicans going to give credit to Obama for taking out Kim Jong-Il? That's Bin Laden, Gaddafi, and Kim Jong-Il in the same year.

Obama is the Tim Tebow of foreign policy. Born in another country (), heralded as a hero before he even stepped on the field (Nobel Peace Prize); hated by many, loved by others; doesn't do much in the first half and the start of the 3rd quarter of his term then pow, three scores in the 3rd and 4th quarters; scores vaguely associated with his performance.

I think most people don't know this, but North Korea is not actually a pure
communist dictatorship... it's a weird blend of nationalism of the extreme
type and communism. That is, the struggle against capitalism is secondary
to them, the struggle to preserve the Korean race (which they believe to be
threatened and themselves the only guardians of) is primary.

A bit like when Russians fought the Germans in WWII and commies had to
allow/promote the use of slogans like "for motherland" because nobody wants
to die "for workers ownership of means of production".

And I think this is good riddance and that the new guy won't be
as bad. He was Swiss-educated and hopefully is more worldly than his

I bet that we're going to see opening of North Korea within the next

I don't think they'll let the 27 year old rule the country. I say the military will take over and they'll probably be the ones doing reforms, if anything.

That 27 y.o. is a four star general, and probably responsible for the shelling of that SK island some tima ago - it's probably him that control the military.

He was made a 4 star general only recently to try and give him the credentials for taking over. There's a group of much older, much more hardened generals out there who are probably thinking some pretty treasonous thoughts right now.

They'll take over. His father was focused on making the military strong and I don't see these generals letting some 27 year old fattie who practically didn't even exist before last year take over.

I mean I know history is filled with guys succeeding their fathers like this but it's 2011. I can't imagine the military will just abide and listen to this dude. This isn't a monarchy. It's a "Democratic People's Republic". Nationalism and communism should trump the cult of a lineage.

I don't know, just because you're a 26 year old who nobody would ever want to give control of a country to doesn't mean he's a 27 year old who can't take control.

Also, the medals and ribbons on those guys... you'd think North Korea has been fighting 4 wars over the past two decades or something the way they are decorated.

I'm quite aware that it isn't for his military knowledge that he got that rank I also think that those high ranking generals that you are talking about is happy to have a figurehead with a good reputation in NK.
