I'm not expecting you to think that it was super hard labor or required tremendous personal sacrifice. Also, I was a cashier, not a bag boy.

Ah yes, too good for bagging!

Seriously though, kids that don't even have jobs are more humble (more character). You're proud. That's not character.

Kidicious, you're the last person I would try to learn character from. You probably don't actually know what it means, just like you don't know what half the elementary-school level words you say mean.

What you learn from work experience is unlike anything you could possibly hope to teach in school.

Like what? Your example isn't applicable because I was never a spoiled brat who looked down on people with lousy jobs. Oh, and schools do force kids to do unpleasant things when told.

Internships for high school students for professional jobs are just retarded.

You can't hope to give them any meaningful work.

Internships/co-op placements in university, however, is smart.

They won't let us hire underage interns.

And boy, would they get some experience.

TJ students actually do meaningful work in their internships. I didn't suggest that as a widespread program, however. I wasn't referring to professional jobs when I suggested work study programs.

they didn't prevent me from waking up every damn day ~5 am to deliver a liberal newspaper thru dog-infested streets or having to walk around and collect a few $$$ from almost 100 people every month.

Depends, can be just as much of a pointless waste of time, depending on the student.

The law made me wait to start being a caddy until I actually turned 13. I was a bit of a runt back then so it was probably good that I wasn't allowed to do it any younger.
Even then it was hard work that was a good lesson for the future.

I had my first job at 8. I earned like half what minimum wage was back then. Further, my earnings were used to pay for school supplies. This taught me to instinctively hate work. A very useful lesson indeed.
