Smoked Salmon is relatively expensive for hospital food in any book. I doubt that smoked salmon is going to miraculously cure him over any other equally healthy cheaper alternative.
Why not just serve everyone Vegetarian food? That's healthy and cheap and good for the environment.
I'm happy to state that my local hospital serves a choice of kosher, halal, Afro-Caribbean and Indian vegetarian, as well as Euro/Anglo friendly items such as ravioli and mashed potatoes.
Naturally I felt it my duty as a citizen earlier this year when I was being treated for obstructive jaundice and an enlarged inflamed liver, to sample all the available cuisines, purely out of public spiritedness and a desire to research the subject for 'Poly's later enrichment. Consider this my (albeit late) in depth report.
As one who loathed school meals, I can gleefully report that hospital meals are tip top in my book.
Oh, as well as the three standard meals, we also had a tea/coffee trolley (with a lovely group of servers, including the cheerful Svetlana) and occasional treats in the form of post lunch biccies and cake slices.
Well done the N.H.S. . Oh and I made a point of thanking the nurses and doctors in each ward I was treated in, in person. I also provided them with a range of healthy (and not so healthy...) goodies as a way of expressing the thanks that they very richly deserved.
Their attitude towards me aided very much in my recovery. Oddly enough for those of you who may think I'm a complete ****, they actually said they wished they had more patients like me.
Which warmed the heart of my cockles, indeed.
