  • Libya Islamic State, Sharia to be Instituted

So is there anyone here still naive enough to believe that Democracy will flourish in the middle east as a result of the Arab Spring? I think it should be obvious to people by now that as long as Islam is the religion of the Middle East their values will never be even remotely compatible with the West. So lets do the rational thing and get off of their oil ASAP so we can treat them like a disease and simply quarantine them from the rest of the world. Then they can eat their sand and oil and yell alah akubar as they live it up medieval style.

How many western democracies have implemented stupid religiously-inspired legislation? None, of course.

"Sharia law", whatever that means although it sounds ominous and scary, is obviously undemocratic even if the vast majority of people in a country want it.

Why am I not surprised that you find Christianity, and the obviously crazed zealots in the US government pushing such extreme and hideous things like bans on abortion and prayer in school, to be far less palatable than the poor, misunderstood victims of the Middle East who want nothing more than to implement the peaceful and falsely maligned practice of Sharia?

Well, given that they've just been elected, and are unlikely to win a true majority, I think you're squawking a bit early there, Chicken Little.

Kind of like how Tunisia doesn't have a majority of Islamists elected or how the Muslim Brotherhood isn't the largest political party in Egypt?

They could have a "democratic" referendum to see if the vast majority want Sharia Law.

If the vast majority want Sharia Law then would it be "democratic" to then ignore the referendum results?

            * Assuming the referendum was free and fair.

To be honest I think the majority in the Middle East want Sharia...at least the majority of men and they're the only ones who count over there anyway. I think they should be allowed to implement it after we've properly set up a cage for them to prevent their little disease from spreading to the rest of the world worse than it already has.

Wait, I was getting them mixed up with Tunisia. Libya just had this declared by the transitional government, whose present degree of control over the country is...well, better than Somalia's "government," but that's about it. Oh no, the "authority" set up by a gang of recently-victorious guerrillas turned out not to be a modern liberal democracy!

Come to think of it, the timing of your return is rather fishy. Are we sure you're not a BKDL?

Indeed. The U.N. mandate to "protect civilians" turned into a get Gaddaffi air campaign.

The West's objective seems to have been to get rid of Gaddaffi, to be replaces by Christ knows who or what.

                    Brilliant.

I think the real issue here is that people aren't approaching Islam for what it is. It's not a religion-I might be willing to apply the definition of cult to it-it's a virus. It spreads like a plague (for literary effect, I'm well aware the plague was bacterial) from one part of the globe to the other infecting everything it touches. Islam is a disease, pure and simple.

I think the real question is how do you cure a virus. We lack the technological capability today to effectively cure viruses without severely damaging or destroying the host. That's why I feel the best solution is a quarantine. Someday, when we have advanced to a greater level of technological sophistication, we can attempt eliminate the virus.
