Ah Berlin. I was only there last weekend with Ecthy in fact. He'll have no problem and most people speak English (although I do try and use my terrible German but I quickly get out of my depth after 2 or three sentences ). Tell him to have fun though, great place, lots to do and very safe and hospitable.
