Berlin travel advice.

A really good friend of mine just called me; he was booked to spend five days in Berlin providing technical help to a German client who purchased their microchips but they finished up in just two days. Rather than go home early he's decided to stay in Berlin as a tourist for the next three days but the problem is he has no idea what sights are good, he doesn't speak a word of German, and he's concerned that being Indian-American might be an issue. I told him race wasn't a factor and I'm sure lots of tourist attractions have English speaking guides or at least English tapes on self guided tours. Does anyone have any suggestions for good restaurants, attractions, or things to see in or around Berlin which he can do in a three day period? Thanks.

He's apparently in Bar Newton right now which despite it's name doesn't have any English speaking staff. He's staying at the Marriott Berlin near Brandenburg Gate and has an expense account to blow money on.

He asked me to fly out and meet him, even offering to share his expense account & share his hotel room, but 1) I'm not going to pay $1000 for a last minute plane ticket to Berlin and 2) I already took one day off this week in order to go to Texas for a job interview. There was no way I could take off two more (Thursday & Friday) just to go on vacation to Germany (where I have already been before but would love to visit again if I had gotten a bit more notice).

BTW, yes, he has his laptop and smart phone so he has internet access but I think he was a bit lonely there since his wife wasn't there and he doesn't speak German. Never the less he asked me for advice so I thought I'd post something at poly to see if our local sages had any advice.

Not flight. Just expenses when there since his company basically already paid for everything and he has a very generous expense account. BTW he's from San Francisco. We were roommates for two years in collage.
