Envy of success in your country

I'm writing an article and I need sayings from different cultures
that showcase envy or jelaousy or schadenfreude or the like.

Basically, I want to convince my readers that envy of success is
not unique to Croats. So, in my language we have:

"God, let my cow die if you take two from my neighbour"

And similar egalitarian striving is evident in sayings such as:

"The tallest grass is the first to be cut" (shut up, blend in)

Korean:

"Sharp stones get hammered flat" (same meaning as above)

Do you have any similar sayings? I know there are some in
Scandinavian countries, but I forgot the specifics.

There's not much envy of success in the US. Success is generally praiseworthy. That said, there is little sympathy for those that fail and many would rather see someone else hurt than gain a benefit for themselves. That's why we're so ****ed up and ****ed, in general.

Canadians (and others?) have what is called tall poppy syndrome. It is annoying when I see it.

Black was the definition of hubris. Laws did not apply to him. He renounced his Canadian citizenship to purchase a British knighthood. His wife's autobiography is self-titled Fascist B*tch. He lied to business partners and shareholders and when they had a chance to throw him under the bus, they acted promptly.
