HCs' argument is that if I am willing to take $10 an hour to be a cop it must be fair. When I applied for the Police Academy 700 people were applying for 30 spots. I guarantee you that most of those 700 people would have done the job for half of what the actual pay is. Why? because 700 people needed to feed their households. However, instead of getting into a bidding war, the department picked what they thought were the best people for the job. Based on what we currently know. Paying the Police low wages increases the chance for corruption and inefficiency once they get the job. So it makes sense to actually pay a REAL FAIR wage not the minimum acceptable wage. There is actually a difference between the two. When you go to a fast food joint you get minimum wage service when you go to a fancy restaurant you get service based on the workers expectation of being tipped well. But consider this, the fast food employer does not have a tip system in place so his workers are of a lower quality, service is worse and theft is higher. The fancy restaurant employer has taken the burden of paying a fair wage off of himself a placed it in the hands of worker so he gets away with lowballing his workers

When it comes down to it. Police are working class. I do not believe in the concept of benevolent employers. I believe employers will do what ever they can get away with. So unions allow employees to have a voice and some amount of power. It kills me how republicans have been able to convince working class people to act against their best interests.

Have you ever heard of mandatory overtime?
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.
