REM has decided to disband after 31 years. For us old guys, REM will be missed.

I was shocked when I heard; I thought they'd disbanded years ago.

I thought they were over a while ago. Even on their worst day, they were better than this dubstep crap.
        John Brown did nothing wrong.

They did go on Hiatus when Bill Berry had his aneurism.

England owes REM a great deal.

They were a huge influence for my old guitarist / songwriter colleague with whom I played in bands on and off for nearly 20 years. I preferred the early stuff personally. I don't begrudge a band for turning music into commerce, but Shiny Happy People was the low watermark.

                          Well damn...

R.E.M. were really the first band I started listening to...no music had really gained my attention that much before then. Not really been into the more recent stuff but their earlier stuff is something I will listen to forever...and although Shiny Happy People was not everyone's cup of tea most of their output was still great...look at New Adventures In Hi Fi which was a relatively late album but one of their best.

Somehow I doubt they are hard up, and they never really seemed to be the most extravagant of types either. So no chance
