I've actually not said most of these things. Read more closely.

      I've said:

      - The US is borderline a theocracy (moreso under Bush). There's a ****load of backup for that. Look at your currency. Look at Bush's policies on sex education and how many billions of dollars he threw at Christian churches. Look at him (and all Presidents) praying to God, etc. You guys probably don't even ****ing notice how crazy it makes you all seem, but that stuff just isn't done elsewhere in the world except in countries that are faith-based, like Iran. You have a ****ed up barometer for religious craziness.
      - I never said Bush wasn't democratically elected. I just said he was elected without having the most votes. The fact that your system is ****ed up in such a matter is "democratic" in that is how you've defined it, but you must admit it's all kinds of ****ed up for the year 2000.
      - I've called the US a "backwards theocratic nation" (in God you trust, indeed), but I've not once claimed an equivalence. Do you know the meaning of that word?

Honestly, Ozzy, get a ****ing clue.

      - The GOP/Tea Party is not much different than the most hardcore Islamist regimes
      Truth hurts.

Montana Tea Party Leader Endorses Violence Toward Gay People

"Marriage is between a man and a woman period!" Ravndal declared, adding a news article about the ACLU's action and a closing comment of "By giving rights to those otherwise would be a violation of the constitution and my rights."

The logic there is a bit dumbfounded. Allowing two people who love each other to get married somehow violates Ravndal's constitutional rights to ... what? No, seriously. Gay marriage will affect Ravndal's love life in what way?

But beyond the perplexing logic, it's the comments by some of Ravndal's friends that garnered the most attention, including a dude named Dennis Scranton, who agreed with Ravndal's assessment of gay couples and then added: "I think fruits are decorative. Hang up where they can be seen and appreciated. Call Wyoming for display instructions."

Wyoming, you'll remember, was the scene where in 1998, Matthew Shepard was brutally beaten and hung up in a field. Shepard died several days after he was found.

Asher is such a ****ing idiot.

Oh no, our president prays to God! USA is a theocracy! We're just like Iran because our leaders pray sometimes!!

And a vague comment online by someone who knows a tea party leader != a tea party leader calling for violence. Such an idiot.

Really nothing more I can say that you haven't already.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised by your argument. It's not surprising you'd rather not confront reality.

The sad truth is most Americans seem to honestly have no ****ing idea how whacked they are. It's normalcy to them. Sure, we put "In God we Trust" all over our money and our politicians talk about prayer and Jesus, and pay billions of dollars to Christian organizations. Sure, your government is so corrupt and run by corporate interests that you spend more on defense funding and pork than you do on keeping your own people healthy. Sure, your electorate is perhaps one of the dumbest and least informed of any major Western nation despite being the wealthiest. Sure, you'll try to impeach a President for ****ing a woman but when an entire administration lies as a pretense for a war you give them a pass. Sure, you're the largest target for terrorists in the world and only continue to make yourself a bigger target -- and I'll let you in on a secret: it's not because you "love freedom". It's because you are an overtly Christian nation who is trying to tell the rest of the world how they should be living. To add insult to injury, you live in a country where Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin are considered credible candidates.

It's time to wake up and smell the bitter coffee, Ozzy.

          God bless America.

Yes, because that's precisely my argument.

Theocracy is the rule by people in positions of political authority all of whom share the same religious beliefs and preferences.

Are you going to tell me that the US government, especially under Bush, was anything but Christian? Tell me with a straight face.

Tell me his "abstinence-only" sex education has nothing to do with Christianity. Tell me his opposition to gay marriage has nothing to do with Christianity.

That was just the first hit on google.

The Tea Party people say REALLY bat**** crazy things on a regular basis.

"I hope that's not where we're going, but you know if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies and saying my goodness what can we do to turn this country around? I'll tell you the first thing we need to do is take Harry Reid out." —Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle, floating the possibility of armed insurrection in a radio interview, Jan. 2010

"It is not enough to be abstinent with other people, you also have to be abstinent alone. The Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery. You can't masturbate without lust! ... You're going to be pleasing each other. And if he already knows what pleases him and he can please himself, then why am I in the picture?" —Delaware GOP Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, advocating against masturbation in a 1996 MTV interview

'We took the Bible and prayer out of public schools, and now we're having weekly shootings practically. We had the 60s sexual revolution, and now people are dying of AIDS." —Christine O'Donnell, during a 1998 appearance on Bill Maher's 'Politically Incorrect'",

''Do you know, where does this phrase 'separation of church and state' come from? It was not in Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptists. ... The exact phrase 'separation of Church and State' came out of Adolph Hitler's mouth, that's where it comes from. So the next time your liberal friends talk about the separation of Church and State, ask them why they're Nazis.''
—Glen Urquhart, the Tea Party-backed Republican nominee for the Delaware House seat held by Rep. Mike Castle, April 2010

“Gay marriage is probably the biggest issue that will impact our state and our nation in the last, at least, thirty years. I am not understating that,” Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn.

He has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity,” said Rep. Trent Franks about Obama's pro-choice stance.

“You’d have to strike any laws against beastiality, if you’re oriented toward corpses, toward children, there are kinds of perversions,” said Rep. Louie Gohmert on why there should not be hate crime legislation.

"I've always been fascinated by the fact that here was a relatively small country (Nazi Germany) that from a strictly military point of view accomplished incredible things." —Ohio GOP House candidate and Tea Party favorite Rich Iott, explaining why for years he donned a German Waffen SS uniform and participated in Nazi re-enactments as part of a group that calls itself Wiking, Oct. 2010 (Source) Iott later said the Nazi soldiers "were doing what they thought was right for their country."

"Our nation was founded on violence. The option is on the table. I don't think that we should ever remove anything from the table as it relates to our liberties and our freedoms." —Tea Party-backed Texas GOP congressional candidate Stephen Broden, suggesting the violent overthrow of the U.S. government if Republicans don't win at the ballot box

These are also good, but not directly relevant to the thread.

"You know what, evolution is a myth. Why aren't monkeys still evolving into humans?" —Christine O'Donnell

"I think that two wrongs don't make a right. And I have been in the situation of counseling young girls, not 13 but 15, who have had very at risk, difficult pregnancies. And my counsel was to look for some alternatives, which they did. And they found that they had made what was really a lemon situation into lemonade." —Sharron Angle, explaining why she is against abortion even in cases of rape or incest, July 8, 2010

"It sounds funny, but you need to be paying more for your health care." —Kentucky GOP Senate nominee and Tea Party favorite Rand Paul

"[China has a] carefully thought out and strategic plan to take over America ... There's much I want to say. I wish I wasn't privy to some of the classified information that I am privy to ... A country that forces women to have abortions and mandates that you can only have one child and will not allow you the freedom to read the Bible, you think they can be our friend? We have to look at our history and realize that if they pretend to be our friend it's because they've got something up their sleeve." —Christine O'Donnell, in a debate during Delaware's 2006 Senate primary

It was provincial (Nova Scotia, IIRC), but it could happen in Alberta or federally I'd imagine. There are imbalances in representation in some regions and between urban and rural.

America doesn't meet that definition of theocracy though, unless you conflate all of Christianity into one religion and ignore Judaism and other minority faiths.

Nobody has explained yet what would possibly make someone convert to Judaism though. Only convert I ever heard of was Walter Sobchak.
                              John Brown did nothing wrong.

All of Christianity is fine to group together -- they largely share the same bigo--err, beliefs.

Jewish people, in my experience, tend not to legislate morality (with the VERY BIG exception of Lieberman).
