New York must thank God every night that Philly exists. Philly is the only thing saving New York from being the most crass.

That's just how people from Philly are.

Now, to my ears "pop" sounds slightly strange a vaguely yokelish but it is at least a reasonable phrase to describe a generic soft drink, that said, WTF is up with the south? Why do you rebel scum have to refer to everything as a "coke"? Don't you know that's a specific brand and not a generic term? I've remarked on this southern colloquialism several times in my travels but I always thought it was more confined to specific areas (especially around Atlanta due to Coca-Cola having it's HQ there) but it turns out just about all of you use the wrong word.
I use use both words, pop or soda.

Maybe lots of immigration from other states resulting in a hodgepodge? I know NC especially gets touted for low cost of housing and low taxes so it's supposedly a good place for retirees (although boring as hell and lacking in amenities from what I hear). Still, I can think of worse places to spend your twilight years.
