Is that scrappage scheme still going? I think that would definitely get more money for my car than I would get through selling it

My size does make it easy to buy whatever car I want though...although strangely enough even I seem to find small cars a little bit too small. I've had quite a few hire cars on the go.

But I have to buy a brand new car though, don't I?

The good thing about German cars is their good residual values...the car won't be worthless in 3 years time when I come to trade in.

Really depressing thing, you'd think that about German cars, but it isn't really true. Some German cars have awful residuals. Supposedly the A1 has good residuals...at less than 50%. the A3 averages around 40%, the Polo and Golf around 45%, according the What? Car. The i10 isn't listed in the current issue, but in previous issues it was over 50%. And the scrappage scheme has finished, IIRC.

four year old Mercedes CLS - it's better than whatever you will end up buying, and you can afford the running costs.

How do you know what I will end up buying?

The new 1 series reminds me of the the old BMWs of the 60's and 70's like the 2002. I think it is a bit too small but it might be considered nicely sized in the UK.

                  I see the future

or more accurately I can read - you are buying German, and you are not buying a Porsche... thus this car I recommended will be better than whatever you end up buying unless you are going for SL, are you???

OK, PH. We'll forgo sporty and go for practical. How about a Jetta TDI?

Nissans are still made in the UK. I don't know anything about their UK line up though.
