I thought we were recommending me cars, not reminiscing about 19th century cars

Why hasn't anyone asked if you crashed the old one yet?

Anything German sound OK. Do watch your parts though... we produce gearboxes for some VW models over here, and while they're excellent gearboxes, I don't theink they're up to par with the ones they make over there.

Hondas used to be good as well.

The old one is still in use and sat in the garage. For once, I have managed to keep it as long as I intended, without me having to get shut of it through terrible unreliability (Peugeot 106) or being written off in a rear end shunt through no fault of my own (my previous car)

Isn't terrible unreliability just good reliability?

A man has a love-hate relationship with his Rover. He loves and yet he hate it. Rover is the paradox of cars.

In a decent price category I would say have a look a FORD. If you want to go German, VW are nice and still affordable. Don't go with BMW unless you can make it a company car. Maintenance on those suckers costs as much as a mistress.

                      There's the SDF1, but that one's kind of a ***** to park.

It was sold in the USA and Canada as a Rover 3500 and in the EU as a Rover SD1. It had a four speed manual transmission (later upgraded to a Honda built five speed) and a 3.5 liter, all aluminum, Rover V-8 (nee Buick V-8 which is who owned the engine prior to 1969 though BL liked that it had previously been a Buick engine as David Dunbar Buick had originally been from Glasgow, Scotland).

Seriously though, do you even need a car in Manchester?

I get by through a combination of Enterprise and City Car Club. Just did North Devon for 4 days using an Enterprise rental (a nice Fiat Punto Evo 1.4) and it only cost me £47 incl. VAT. I must have saved hundreds of pounds since ditching my car.

Personally I prefer the supermini size (but not the tiny ones!) and have recently driven:

Vauxhall Corsa (Like a lot apart from an annoying blind spot!)

                          Renault Clio (OK)

Ford Fiesta (Dependable and looks decent)

My favourite is the Punto though...

If I were to go German, it would be either the Polo or the Golf - probably the new Polo! Or the Audi A3.
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

What do you actually want from a car? I could recommend loads, but how about specifying the qualities you want?

For £20K I'd be looking at the Volvo V50, Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Superb estate, Toyota Avensis and Mazda 6.

Golf or A3 are tempting, but yeah, I am trying to figure out whether I even want a new car too. I might ditch this one because with the frequency I drive I might just hire a car for when I need it and then buy one if I need to regularly drive again. Is a TT too hairdresser/twatty?
