  • Recommend Provost a New Car...

OK guys, it's time for another recommend me thread. With all this money burning a hole in my pocket and my current car looking a bit long in the tooth (it's approaching its 10th birthday and I've had it for as near as damn it 5 years, and although mechanically sound, everything else is starting to fail on it - SatNav DVD player has gone, CD player gone, now the AC seems to have given up over the weekend) - so what do you reckon? Open to all sensible suggestions. We're probably talking about £20k or so...give or take. May be prepared to lease if that is more economically feasible...but again, would like your opinions. And recommendations from the Americans are probably not going to be so useful. No offence fellas, we don't tend to have the same models in Europe as you do.

    Oh yeah, preferably something German.

Oh yeah, just to clarify, I'd rather get something nearly new second hand rather than something brand new - that is just throwing money away.

Just looking at the thread recommendations at the bottom of the page. This is the third recommendation thread for a car...although the other ones were for my previous cars

You Englishman have **** cars. You need a dose of good old American cars (this includes Japanese cars made in America but not ****e Korean cars). Don't tell me you secretly want a girlie-man-Eurotwat car. Real Englishmen want Jaguars and MGs!

Hell, even I owned a Rover 3500! I bet you never even owned a Rover or an Austin. Even a Land Rover would be OK. Feel your English roots, damn you, I bet you don't even remember BMC Much less British Leyland!

My dad owned Rovers or Austins. The latter were before my time, at least from a legally driving perspective

I don't need some American boat. I need a decent car

What are the safest cars on the road today?

                    Acura RL
                    Audi A6
                    Cadillac CTS
                    Ford Taurus
                    Mercury Sable
                    Toyota Avalon
                    Volv S80
I couldn't really find anything about "Safest for others on the street".

I've never even heard of an SD1? Is this car older than me or something?

When I was in high school a friend of mine had Triumph TR8. Now there was a proper English car. V-8 powered and a two seater. The problem is it ran like **** and the electrics would kill you before it ran right. Some would say that's the order of an English car.

You'd think we'd be able to engineer a good car given our national traits...we're generally very good engineers. It's strange.

But no, I want something that is actually going to work!

When I was working at an auto mechanic's, we had an Austin we were fixing. I drove it around a couple of times, it was great. Not very comfortable though.
