Couldn't they at least try and make him friendly looking? The stance and facial is more something I'd expect on a Ghenghis Khan statue glaring down on a conquered people rather than a Gandhi statue built by Indians to honour an enlightened and important national figure. He looks like a Chinese Malcom X/Mike Tyson hybrid.

For the love of class struggle and liberation, Mao-killed-sixty-million-by-famine-and-work is freaking smiling! Except for the second statue that evokes a kind of abstract rationalism they seem wise, benevolent leaders or teachers of the people.
The American statue seems to say:
